We had a useful workshop in Durham yesterday.  Many thanks for all contributions.

Here is a link to the summary notes and slides.

Research Notebooks Workshop Notes November 2019

Our plans were blessed by Great Chief Optimism who kindly joined us for the day.

We have merged all the possible requirements from the workshops to date in this document:

Possible Requirements

It is basic and needs further clarification and discussion.

Feel free to comment on it or use the comments button below if you want to suggest other key requirements.  We hope to arrange some further community discussion online or in person.

If you would like to contribute to a voluntary list of electronic research notebook activity you can do that here Research Notebooks Activity

To keep in touch with shared activities or ask questions of peers you can sign up to the community Research Notebooks mail list https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=RESEARCHNOTEBOOKS

  1. Hi Valerie, the one key element for us that is missing from the list is Author and Witness signature for patent protection as well as the document being locked so no editing can take place after signing. I don’t know where it fits in the list as obviously creating patentable data isn’t going to be relevant to everyone. Catherine

    1. Hi Catherine. There is a second tab for specialist requirements so I have added these points there. It is not hard and fast as to what is key as that may vary but we hope to identify ‘generic’ requirements if we can.
